Fifty short-stories on Otibeguni

Today, Otibeguni reached a significant milestone: we have now authored 50 short-story adaptations of folktales from Bengali and indigenous cultures.

• Our collection features about a dozen regional legends about our lakes, hills, and archaeological sites.
• We have adapted over twenty Bengali folktales, ranging from early sources like Chandimangal, Shreekrishna Kirtana, and Mymensingh Geetika to more recent ones collected by the Bangla Academy. Additionally, we have contributed a couple of stories from our own fieldwork.
• We have also gathered several puthis (e.g. Bonobibi Jahuranama) and Bengali translations of Farsi poems (e.g. Yusuf Zulekha), painstakingly parsing the medieval vocabulary to adapt them into short stories written in simplified language.
• Lastly, we have published a dozen indigenous folktales from nine different communities, spanning from the populous Chakma and Marma peoples to the smallest tribes of the Bawm people.
• We would like to remind our readers that all of our short stories are available in the public domain under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license, allowing anyone to freely edit, copy, and distribute them without giving us credit. Most of our stories have been translated into English, and our volunteers are working diligently to catch up with the backlog.
