For over two years, the Otibeguni team has quietly worked behind the scenes—visiting local bookstores, meeting with private collectors, and accessing museum archives—to collect rare and out-of-print books on Bengali and Indigenous folklore. We’ve been digitizing and archiving these materials, making them available to our staff, volunteers, and selected researchers through a private library.
Today, we’re proud to announce that our Digital Folklore Library is now open to the public at library.otibeguni.com.
- No login required: Anyone can browse and read public domain materials, including rare Puthi manuscripts dating back to the late 1700s.
- Research access: Academics, authors, and students can request access to copyrighted material, including volumes from Bangla Academy’s Folklore Shongromala series and an extensive range of Indigenous folklore collections.
- Coming soon: We’re preparing to launch a paid subscription model, allowing readers—especially those abroad—to support our preservation work while enjoying full access to our growing digital archive. We are trying to find ways to pass on a portion of the subcription revenue back to the original authors.
This is just the beginning. Our digitization efforts will continue, and we’re also collaborating with local authors to translate and publish their work on platforms like Amazon and Kobo—making Bengali and Indigenous literature more accessible to the world.
