Syed Yaqub Shah (Rahmatullah Alaihi) is a revered saint whose widely discussed shrine is located in Barlekha Upazila within the Moulvibazar district. As a key companion who traveled alongside Shah Jalal (Rahmatullah Alaihi), his shrine remains a center of spiritual significance and local legends.
According to widespread folklore, the shrine is associated with a miraculous practice involving cut taro plants placed between two bricks. It is local belief that if someone’s belongings are stolen, cutting a taro plant and placing it between two bricks at the shrine will cause the thief to either suffer unbearable pain or face death. Unable to tolerate the agonizing punishment, the perpetrator is compelled to return the stolen property to its rightful owner. Local accounts affirm that individuals facing such problems have historically received, and continue to receive, direct results through this miraculous intervention.
